Caring for our people and communities

We firmly believe that our success is intrinsically linked to the well-being and growth of our people and the communities in which we operate.

Our focus on people begins with a robust commitment to health and well-being, ensuring every team member feels supported, safe, and valued - the bedrock of a productive, positive and healthy work environment.

We are dedicated to developing talent and potential in all areas of our workforce through rewarding careers; providing opportunities for personal growth and advancement that allow our people to thrive, both personally and professionally.

Our focus on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) reflects our belief that a mix of backgrounds, perspectives and experiences strengthens our business, drives innovation and supports better outcomes for our customers and society.

Gender equality

Companies that promote gender diversity and inclusivity see better financial performance, more innovative ideas, and stronger organisational culture. Our sector, along with the wider construction sector, has a poor track record in attracting and retaining women, but we are proactively seeking to redress the balance. Baxi and the BDR Thermea Group contribute to SDG 5, Gender Equality in a number of ways.

Our gender diversity policy aims for 35% women in leadership by 2030, covering all levels of management in the business.

Our strong culture and values form the foundation of our strategy and are engrained in our leadership competency framework and performance management. An active and popular Women’s Network operates Group-wide, with training and leadership development opportunities for women.

Decent work and economic growth

SDG 8 focuses on promoting inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all. This is central to our operations as a manufacturing employer in a sector undergoing major transition.

We’re focused on secure and sustainable work for our employees, with prospects for equal opportunities for personal development and rewarding careers. We’re proud of our efforts to ensure Diversity, Equity and Inclusion across our workplaces, where all employees feel valued and respected.

Improving health and wellbeing for employees and their families

All colleagues have access to the Help@Hand app, to access free services and benefits relating to health and wellbeing, financial and legal support, lifestyle coaching and nutritional consultations.

We are working hard to increase the positive impact for employees from our focus on Health & Wellbeing, which we measure through shared anecdotal experience and through our annual ENPS score.

We saw a big increase in ENPS scores for Health & Wellbeing, from +72 in 2023 to +85 in 2024.

Construction Inclusion Coalition Logo

Baxi is a founding member of The Construction Inclusion Coalition (CIC)

The CIC is an industry wide effort with a singular objective to improve equity, diversity and inclusion across the construction industry, to ultimately retain and attract talent, and ensure the longevity of the industry.

Our sector has historically been very male dominant and perceptions remain that it is not a sector where women can grow their careers and thrive. CIC is aiming to change that perception.

We’re working towards our target of 35% of women in senior management positions by 2030.

Current status: 24.1%

Helping to maintain essential community services for the most vulnerable in our community

Members of Baxi’s Customer Services and Marketing teams helped raise more than £10,000 (including Gift Aid) for Myton Hospice in Warwick.

Baxi is proud to sponsor local athlete Lewis Williams, and we joined his 20in25 campaign, which included a sponsored walk to raise funds for Myton Hospice. Myton Hospice provides palliative and end-of-life care for adults and children with life-limiting conditions, supporting patients and their families at an incredibly difficult time.

Baxi has over 1,200 employees, and we give one day a year to everyone to use on behalf of a good cause close to them. That gives us a sizeable opportunity to make a positive impact outside our own workplace.   We have a proud history of supporting worthy causes in need and standing next to others to change outcomes for the most vulnerable in our society.  Myton Hospice is a great example of how we can apply our scale - and our people - for good.

In 2025, employees from across Baxi gave 325 hours to a variety of good causes, making use of their volunteering allowance and improving their communities.

Baton of Hope: Changing attitudes towards mental health in the construction sector

Mental health remains a critical issue in the UK construction sector, with recent data revealing alarming trends in suicide, anxiety, and depression.

According to the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), nearly one-third of construction workers reported experiencing suicidal thoughts in the past year, and the suicide rate in the industry is nearly four times the national average (Office for National Statistics).

Anxiety and depression are the most commonly reported mental health issues, affecting 60% and 45% of workers respectively.

Stress is also widespread, with 70% of workers reporting feeling stressed, anxious, or depressed due to long hours, job insecurity, and financial strain. But despite growing awareness, stigma remains a major barrier: 92% of workers feel uncomfortable discussing mental health with others.

Baton of Hope is one charity that is working hard to remove and eradicate the stigma around mental health in the workplace. We’re proud to be a strategic partner to Baton of Hope and add our voice to raising the profile of mental health in the UK’s construction sector.

Our role is to challenge outdated perceptions, provide real resources, and encouraging men in particular to seek help when they need it. Through our partnership with Baton of Hope, we are engaging our own employees and customers through internal programmes, sharing support resources and encouraging open dialogue within the workplace and beyond.
