Caring for our shared and future prosperity

Good businesses create healthy communities which support good businesses

Healthy communities provide stable, well-paid jobs which stimulate local supply chains, which in turn boost local spending and tax revenues.

This creates the economic stability that allows business to grow, and individuals to prosper. Put another way, “Business is a wholly–owned subsidiary of society”. So said the founder of Tata Industries in the 1860s, who recognised the need for both commerce and community to live and work in harmony.

Today, it’s clear the shift away from fossil fuels (the so-called energy transition) will touch all of us. Our role is at the heart of communities at the consumer end of that transition, and we take that responsibility seriously.

Applying the goals

Decent work and economic growth

SDG 8 focuses on promoting inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all. This is central to our operations as a manufacturing employer in a sector undergoing major transition.

We’re focused on secure and sustainable work for our employees, with prospects for personal development and rewarding careers. We’re proud of our efforts to ensure Diversity, Equity and Inclusion across our workplaces, where all employees feel valued and respected.

Industry, innovation and infrastructure

SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, guides our framework for enhancing competitiveness through sustainable practices and technological advancement.  That includes how we are moving toward resource resilience, reducing CO2 emissions, and designing products for easier disassembly and recycling.

We upgrade infrastructure and proactively retrofit operational activities to adopt clean, environmentally sound technologies that increase efficiency. By implementing smart sensors, energy-efficient motors, and other monitoring technologies we can identify energy hotspots and reduce our overall power usage.

Managing our business and relationships well doesn’t just create a great place to work, it makes economic sense too.

What we are doing

The BDR Thermea Foundation

The BDR Thermea Foundation, set up by the BDR Thermea shareholder, invests our profit to create a positive social impact in the communities where the BDR Thermea Group operates.

The Foundation is dedicated to nurturing the technical talents of tomorrow by building bridges between education, business, and society, with a particular focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education. In the UK, it re-invests Baxi’s profits to provide funding and support for activities and partnerships with Primary Engineer and WorldSkills UK, to inspire young people, develop essential skills, and help address the industry's need for a skilled future workforce to support the transition to sustainable energy and a low carbon future.

How we inspire

alex-kesidis-interviewing

Primary Engineer

Our current three-year partnership with Primary Engineer focuses on introducing engineering to primary school children (Key Stages 1 and 2) through hands-on, curriculum-aligned projects and connecting them with Baxi engineers who work directly with teachers and pupils in schools near our operational sites in Preston and Warwick.

Our employees also support teacher training sessions where educators learn how to deliver hands-on edutainment projects in their classrooms that encourage creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork.

world-skills

WorldSkills UK

Baxi, through the BDR Foundation, is a principal sponsor of WorldSkills UK. Our four- year partnership focuses on promoting excellence in vocational skills and technical education at a national level, targeting apprentices and students.

The WorldSkills UK competitions are often referred to as "The Olympics of the Skills World" and align with our own robust apprenticeship programs, helping to train the future workforce and ensuring high standards in the HVAC sector and skills to support the transition to clean heating and hot water solutions.

Training Provider of the Year

Providing high quality training that allows installers to keep up with the latest technologies and techniques, and ensure they have the necessary skills to support the energy transition, is essential.

We were thrilled to be recognised as the Training Provider of the Year, from industry publication Heating & Ventilation Review in October 2025, for our training team, the investment we have made in our training facilities, and for the feedback given by installers and the professional community.

Our Apprentices

Giving people the best opportunity to get started in our industry is fundamental to our role in helping create the future workforce for heat.

Our 2025 intake of apprentices included our first two low-carbon heating technician apprentices, who will be following a brand-new scheme designed to future proof heating engineers for the next generation of clean energy heating products and solutions, that will help the UK deliver its decarbonisation agenda.

We’re proud that in the five years we’ve been running our customer service engineer apprenticeship scheme, everyone who has completed their apprenticeship is still working for Baxi.  Providing people with a great work environment where colleagues can thrive is part of our sustainable business strategy and demonstrates our commitment to creating careers and lifetime opportunities for our employees.

Being the best we can be for customers

Winning five awards at the 2025 D&G TEQ Awards is definitely good for our brand!

But it’s also a powerful communicator of our commitment to customers, who expect us to go above and beyond when it comes to protecting their right to hot water and heat, when ever it’s needed. D&G’s TEQ Awards are unusual in that they are based on comments and approval ratings from D&G’s tens of thousands of service plan customers. This year they chose Baxi as winners of the:

  • Rising Star award for Field Engineer Carly Gayle
  • Employee Experience Initiative award
  • Sustainability Innovation award
  • Field Service award
  • Heating Award (Highly commended)
