Understanding hot water cylinder sizes and dimensions

Hot water cylinders come in different sizes and capacity varies according to factors such as the size of the property and the number of occupants.

What size hot water cylinder do I need for a 2 or 3 bed house?

Though the usage varies, there is a general rule of thumb you can use for getting the right size cylinder for your home, usually between 45-60 litres of water per occupant. A two-bedroom home (2–3 occupants) typically requires a cylinder that holds between 120 and 180 litres and three-bedroom homes (3–4 occupants) typically need a cylinder that holds between 180 and 240 litres.

Do I have to be F-Gas certified to fit an Air Source Heat Pump?

Monobloc style air source heat pumps contain a hermetically sealed refrigeration circuit and do not require F-Gas certification to install.

Do I have to be F-Gas certified to fit an air source heat pump?

Monobloc style air source heat pumps do not require F-Gas certification to install. Split style ASHPs can be installed by an F-Gas certified engineer.

Should I be Gas Safe registered to install an air source heat pump?

You do not need to be Gas Safe registered to install air source heat pumps, however you will need to be certified under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme, or MCS. Holding an MCS certification demonstrates that you work to the highest quality standards and will also allow your customers to claim specific grants to help with the cost of having an ASHP installed.

Who maintains the heat pump once it is installed?

Air source heat pumps can be maintained either by you as the installer or by the maintenance plans that we offer here at Baxi after the installation is completed. This can be discussed at enquiry stage.

How do I qualify to work under the Baxi MCS Umbrella Scheme?

Baxi installers undergo a thorough vetting process to ensure best practice across our operations. We provide a range of training courses for installers at all levels, so you can be sure that you’ll have all the knowledge you need to fit our heat pumps across the country, using our MCS Umbrella Scheme to help your customers to benefit from incentives such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.
