Heat Interface Unit (HIU) efficiency
Using a twin plate HIU (indirect Heating & Domestic Hot Water) as an example, there are a few key ways in which product efficiency can be measured:
- Heat Exchange – the plate heat exchangers within the unit should be sized appropriately for the application, meaning that the maximum amount of heat is extracted from the heat network as possible.
- Smart Control – the controller is the brains of the HIU, by effectively managing the amount of heat and temperature of the heat taken from the heat network, the HIU can run more efficiently
- Heat Loss – by effectively insulating the heat interface unit and associated components, the manufacturer can limit the heat losses from the unit. This helps to reduce wasted energy and drive better efficiency
The BESA test regime for HIUs, is the adopted industry standard for benchmarking HIU performance. The test results for the Baxi AquaHeat HI / HWI can be found here - HIU Test Registers | HIU | Our Services | BESA (thebesa.com).
